Amy Sui and I met in one of our Communication classes about social movements at UCSD nearly two years ago. Our class was assigned a major group project about any topic of our choosing regarding the 2016 Presidential election backlash. At the time, Amy and I were complete strangers, but immediately drawn to one another by our shared interests in women empowerment, inclusivity, representation, and self-care.

Students were told that we would be working on videos that would be featured on the BuzzFeed News online platform if our group demonstrated the kind of content they were interested in sharing. Our group primarily wanted to focus on young women from various backgrounds by showcasing all of their unique reactions, thoughts, and feelings about the election. Most importantly, we wanted to highlight their coping mechanisms and self-care tips to deal with the stress that weighed on them post-election.

During this time, Amy showed excellent leadership skills and took it upon herself to guide us towards success. Most of the girls, including myself, had not taken any production classes prior to this group project. Amy took the initiative to teach every single one of us the skills we needed to develop if we were to make a compelling video for BuzzFeed. On top of that, Amy wrote up interview questions for each interviewee, set up a schedule of the best meeting times, organized meetings at her place, showed us how to edit our video clips into a coherent piece of work, and tirelessly worked long hours compiling the finishing details on our video after we had all gone home.

My dear friend Amy would be a great addition to your company's team because she is a hard worker, extremely dedicated to any project she is involved in, thinks fast on her feet, comes up with creative concepts, is a great leader, and above all else, does it with impeccable style. In the few short years I have known her, Amy is someone who strives to help her teammates and I have seen her accomplish so much.

If you were to have Amy on your team, she would bring fresh ideas to the table that will help you expand your audience. Not only does Amy value everyone’s perspective, but she also wants to help give a voice to marginalized communities in a thoughtful and respectful way. Amy is a young woman for the people and has a heart that you won't find in anyone else like her. If you give her this excellent opportunity, I promise your company will be better for it in the long run.
